Aamir Khan, known as ‘Mr Perfectionist’ of Bollywood, is celebrated for his iconic roles in romantic classics such as Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (QSQT) and Raja Hindustani. Known for his versatility and dedication, Aamir has been often looked upon as a guiding force in Indian cinema. At the trailer launch of his son Junaid Khan’s debut film Loveyapa, co-starring Khushi Kapoor, Aamir reflected on his journey, romantic ideals, and the changing dynamics of love on-screen. During the course of the conversation, the actor proclaimed himself to be a “mushy romantic” and shared his perspective on perfection, love, and evolving relationships.
On the tag of a ‘Perfectionist’
“I am aware of the fact that more often than not, the media calls me a perfectionist, but that’s not a tag I’ve given myself. Of course, such compliments boost our confidence and make us happy — all of us, me and my contemporaries. But on a personal note, I think there is nothing called perfection. That is why I am not a perfectionist,” Aamir shared.
Aamir candidly dismissed the ‘perfectionist’ label and emphasised that the magic of life lies in imperfections. He believes that the universe’s diversity is what makes it beautiful. Highlighting his artistic process, he added, “I never worked to achieve perfection but rather searched for magic in the moment. I want to touch your heart as an artist, and that’s magical, right? That has no formula.” Aamir’s philosophy resonates with his body of work, from the raw innocence of QSQT to the heartfelt emotions of Taare Zameen Par.
On the love language of the current generation
“Every new generation is always one step ahead of the previous one in every aspect of life — mentally, intellectually, emotionally. Today, when I look at a youngster of 18 years old, I see how well-versed they are with information and how clear they are in their emotional equations with people,” the actor said.
Aamir further mentioned that while terms like ‘benching’ and ‘situationship’ dominate modern relationships, the core values of love and loyalty remain timeless. His reflection bridges the gap between generations, underlining how technology and awareness shape the emotions of today’s youth. The narrative aligns with the premise of Loveyapa, which explores contemporary romance with a touch of humour.
Is Aamir Khan romantic?
“I am a very romantic person by nature, I swear! It’s a bit awkward to say, but one can ask both my wives (laughed). I’m quite a mushy romantic person, and my favourite film genre is romantic films,” Aamir told the media persons at the event.
Offering a glimpse into his personal and professional life, Aamir revealed how maturity has shaped his understanding of love. He said, “True love is when you learn to love yourself. It is only when you love, respect, and value yourself that you’re ready for a relationship.”
