Story:
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 has been one of the most anticipated films this year. Not only because of the popular horror comedy franchise but also the presence of Madhuri Dixit Nene and the return of Vidya Balan. But, is it worth the wait? Is it one of those films that you must not miss to experience on the big screen? Read on to find out..
The premise of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 follows the fun and fraud journey of Kartik Aaryan’s Rooh Baba, who operates in West Bengal. He claims that he can save troubled humans from sinful souls. But, in reality, he can do nothing about ghosts or goblins, and in fact, is too scared to deal with a real one. Amidst his con, he gets trapped in a serious business. Now, he is tasked with helping a family get rid of a 200-year-old evil ghost, Manjulika, from their haunted mansion in Raktaghat.
Review:
When Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was released in 2022 along with a new set of actors, it wasn’t expected to fulfill fans’ expectations, being a standalone part of the most celebrated film of this horror comedy series. And it didn’t disappoint. However, director Anees Bazmee’s latest venture desperately tries to become hilarious, spooky and a moral giver within two and a half hours. But, it merely comes out as a thick soup that can neither be swallowed nor spit out. With a blathering script and procrastinated screenplay, the latest movie falls flat on its face.
After the first five minutes, the movie is simply unwatchable until the romantic song, Beiraada begins. Composed and crooned by Sachet Tandon and Parampara Tandon, the Rashmi Virag-written track comes as a breather in this monotonous jarring ride. But sadly, the Amaal Mallik-composed Ami Je Tomar 3.0 majorly disappoints, unlike the OG from the 2007 film.
Kartik’s portrayal of Rooh Baba comes across as quite immature as if he’s working in front of the camera for the first time. As soon as Vidya appears in this mumbo jumbo, she offers hope with her impressive act which the audience had been craving since the beginning of the movie. However, the versatile actress too becomes dull after some time. Madhuri steps into the story merely to make it even more mysterious but certainly not better. It’s disheartening to see the two powerhouses of talent get wasted due to a lacklustre direction.
On the other hand, Triptii Dimri gets sidelined like a character artist in a crowd. The trio including Rajpal Yadav, Sanjay Mishra and Ashwini Kalsekar establish a few laugh-worthy sequences but don’t bring anything extraordinary to the table. Meanwhile, we miss Yadav’s OG Chhote Pandit from the 2017 Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Vijay Raaz, Rajesh Sharma and Arun Kushwah play their parts well but couldn’t do more in this limitedly creative movie.
Verdict:
They say, “All’s well that end’s well!” However, Kartik Aaryan’s tedious saga doesn’t seem to end or get better. Even a few tickles and groovy songs couldn’t compensate for the audience’s wasted time. With the humdrum story, amateurish direction and unimpressive performances, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 leaves you drained and irked. It’s an actual maze that you don’t want to enter.
