Assi starring Taapsee Pannu is another Anubhav Sinha-directed film that makes you uncomfortable and prompts you to question your surroundings. It is inspired by the harrowing everyday news you scroll through on your phone. After a compelling motion poster, the official trailer of the movie is finally out. The thriller courtroom drama also has the most talented ensemble cast, including Kani Kusruti, Revathy, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub.

The trailer begins by establishing the reason behind the title of the film. Taapsee is seen playing a lawyer, who appears broken and worn down, as she says that “on the same day of this incident, eighty (Assi) r*pes were reported in the country and trials did not even start for 76 of them.” The video further sees how a woman, who has been sexually assaulted by multiple men, is trying to seek justice with the help of her family and a dedicated lawyer, but is facing brutal challenges during her trial.

A few more similar incidents are also seen in the trailer, which suggests that multiple stories are running in parallel in the movie. Some of the visuals are deeply disturbing in the latest video, while the courtroom trials and conversations also seem quite uncomfortable, which proves that Assi is hard-hitting and a must-watch.

Talking about his upcoming movie in a recent statement, the acclaimed filmmaker mentioned, “For me, my film has to hit the core of the story. With ASSI, it felt like a loud thud exactly where it should. That impact compelled me to make this film.” He also noted that he chose Taapsee to be the lead in the film because she is natural and delivers her best.
Assi Release Date
Written by Anubhav Sinha and Gaurav Solanki, the investigative courtroom drama also features Naseeruddin Shah, Supriya Pathak, and Seema Pahwa. Bankrolled by T-Series and Benaras Media Works, Assi is slated to hit theatres on February 20, 2026.
