Vicky Kaushal seems to be on a roll. The actor, who recently impressed the viewers with the teaser of his upcoming release Chhaava, has now added another ambitious project to his repertoire of films. On Wednesday, November 13, Dinesh Vijan’s production Maddock Films announced their venture into the genre of mythological films with Mahavatar in which Vicky will be seen playing the titular role of Chiranjeevi Parashurama.
Mahavatar first look posters
Along with two static posters of the film, the makers also dropped a motion poster of Mahavatar, featuring Vicky in quite an impressive look as Parashurama. The actor can be seen clad in a dhoti, sporting long locks and beard with fiery eyes. In one of the posters, he can also be seen wielding his divine axe which, as per the lore, was given to him as a boon. As per Hindu mythology, Parashurama is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and is among the seven immortal beings that inhabit this universe.

Mahavatar cast and crew
While not much is known about the other cast members, it has now been made official that Vicky will be seen playing the protagonist in the film. Mahavatar‘s tagline reads, “The story of Chiranjeevi Parashurama. The Eternal Warrior of Dharma.” Produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, the movie will be directed by Amar Kaushik and written by Niren Bhatt. This will also mark the third collaboration of them as producer, director, and writer respectively, after Bhediya (2022), and Stree 2 (2024). Interestingly, Mahavatar will also mark Vicky Kaushal’s third collaboration with Maddock after Zara Hatke Zara Bachke (2023), and Chhaava (2024).
Mahavatar release date
The movie is slated to hit the theatres on the occasion of Christmas in 2026. Vicky, is currently occupied with the shoot of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next titled Love & War and will begin shooting for Mahavatar post its completion.
Vicky Kaushal’s line-up of upcoming films
Vicky is amongst the busiest actors in the industry today. After having a successful run at the ticket windows with Bad Newz this year, the actor will next be seen as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the historical epic drama Chhaava. The film was initially set to release on December 6, but has been pushed to avoid a probable box office clash with Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2.
Post Chhaava, Vicky has Bhansali’s Love & War in which he will be seen sharing the screen space with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. The movie is set to release on Christmas 2025. The actor will then dive into prep for Mahavatar somewhere in November next year.
As per a report on Bollywood Hungama, Mahavatar will need about six to eight months of preparation before it begins rolling as it requires a lot of research. However, apparently the pre-production of the film has already started and it has been slated to hit the theatres on Christmas 2026.
