Story:

The story follows Vikrant’s (Tahir Raj Bhasin) journey from la-la-land to harsh reality in the first instalment. The small-town hero appears to be living his best life with Shikha (played by Shweta Tripathi) and planning their forever future together. Aanchal Singgh’s Purva Awasthi reenters his life after 15 years like an unavoidable storm to coercively marry him and entangle his life. Little does she know, her husband desperately tries to let himself loose by planning her assassination. However, he gets double-crossed by the hitman, forcing him to arrange a heavy sum to not reveal the truth.

Yeh Kaali Kaali Akhein season 2 begins with highlighting Purva and her mother’s past. They both appear in a foreign country running away from the police force. After a few new developments, the series picks up where it left off in the first part and sees Purva entrapped by the contract killer Aditya Hafeez (Arunoday Singh). Meanwhile, Gurmeet Singh is introduced as Purva’s childhood friend and her father Akheraj Awasthi’s (Saurabh Shukla) most trustworthy person. The show further takes a serious tone while the game of cat and mouse begins.

Review:

Lately, the audience hardly had a chance to enjoy a well-made sequel to successful shows. The Sidharth Sengupta directorial is here to salvage the reputation of the OTT series from the unfortunate new norm. The director with co-writers Anahata Menon and Varun Badola has cleverly penned the latest instalment, which lets the actors showcase their capability with longer sequences.

The Netflix series takes a bit of time to warm up and find its niche. The fabulous show loses just a few marks for stretching the story slightly in the beginning. As a viewer, you might want to fast-forward the initial couple of episodes a little bit to get out of the tedious and predictable elements. With the third episode begins the real drama.

Tahir as Vikrant is worthy of every minute of his screen time, as his hypocritical yet helpless character, has just gotten better with time. He compels you to feel sorry for him as well as adore him even after committing heinous acts. The actor appears rushing in most of the sequences, which weirdly works out for his role.

Meanwhile, Aanchal as Purva has added a new feather to her cap with the power-packed action sequences. Not just manipulation, power, and lust, but this standout character offers a few engrossing sequences as soon as she appears on the screen. Even after being surrounded by a barrage of goons, the sly woman appears, bold, confident, and mindful.

Gurmeet Choudhary is a breath of fresh air in this intense drama. With the help of a few high-tech gadgets and smart planning, the one-note lover leaves no stone unturned to save his childhood friend. However, his character appears pitiful on multiple occasions and it makes you feel sorry for him. This, right here, is the beauty of the show. The talented actors and their powerful roles provide a range of emotions and newness to the show.

On the other hand, Shweta gets comparatively less screen time in the series. She performs her defenceless girl act well but that’s about it. However, the climax promises her comeback as one of the pivotal characters in the third season. Arunoday, who appeared quite untamed in the first instalment, gets a character arc and emerges as a vulnerable character. It is refreshing to watch the actor portraying a different shade in the same role. Brijendra, Anant V Joshi, and Hetal Gada’s supporting roles fill up the voids well. Meanwhile, Saurabh and Varun Badola’s powerful characters promise an emphatic clash to look forward to in the next instalment.

Also, the action-packed gun-blazing scenes are extremely thrilling to watch. They leave you wanting for more and are highly anticipated in the third season as well. Spoiler alert! Vikrant and Purva’s teaming up in the climax is gasp-worthy. Fortunately, the director doesn’t let the scenic location slide in the crowd of all the drama. The picturesque visuals of the snowclad mountains and beautiful curvy pathways uplift the viewing experience for the audience.

Verdict:

With an apt amount of action, thrill, fun, and a few flaws, Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein season 2 takes you on an exhilarating ride with a promise to return with even more intense drama.
