One of Aamir Khan’s highly anticipated movies, Laal Singh Chaddha didn’t perform well at the box office when it released back in 2022. The comedy drama film – which also starred Kareena Kapoor Khan, Naga Chaitanya and Mona Singh – was an Indian adaptation of the iconic 1994 film Forrest Gump, with Oscar winner Tom Hanks in the lead. Interestingly, during a recent interview, Tom commented on Laal Singh Chaddha, calling it ‘extraordinary and glorious’.

Currently promoting his new film Here, which is inspired by Richard McGuire’s 2014 graphic novel of the same name, Tom was in an interview with Zoom when he spoke about Laal Singh Chaddha. “I saw that. Extraordinary. I think it’s a testament to how film grows on film. I think all of us have seen movies that have been incorporated into the rest of our creative process, sometimes bleakly, but sometimes very specifically. Every now and again, there is a film that enters the worldwide consciousness that you cannot forget, that you cannot escape. Look at the difference and yet look at the similarities, despite the filmmakers and the cultures that they were in. In many ways, those films were saying the same thing but with the added prospect of the new perspective that came along with it. I just, I think it’s to be celebrated. It was a glorious thing to behold,” the legendary actor elaborated.

Aamir went on a break after the failure of Laal Singh Chaddha, which was said to be his ‘longtime passion project’. In an interview with The Indian Express, his former wife, filmmaker Kiran Rao said that the film’s debacle ‘deeply affected’ the ‘creative animal’ in him, but ‘instead of being bitter, he decided to reassess it’. An Advait Chandan directorial, the movie was written by Atul Kulkarni.

Meanwhile, Tom’s film Here also features Robin Wright, Paul Bettany and Kelly Reilly in the lead. The movie is directed by Robert Zemeckis, who co-wrote the screenplay with Eric Roth. It’s more or less the same team that made Forrest Gump three decades ago.
