Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank was loaded with some hilarious as well as jaw-dropping sequences. The movie was full of cheeky one-liners and quite a few surprises. One such surprising jaw-dropping moment was when Akshay Kumar appeared on screen as a successor from the bloodline of Sarkata – the antagonist of the film.
While Akshay‘s special appearance grabbed a lot of eyeballs, the film’s ending also left the fans in anticipation and they couldn’t help but wonder if the actor will be seen again in Stree 3. Well, putting all the speculations to rest, producer Dinesh Vijan has confirmed the actor’s return to the third instalment of the movie.
During the trailer launch event of Maddock Films’ upcoming outing Sky Force that stars Akshay along with debutant Veer Pahariya, the Sooryavanshi actor was asked if he will be a part of the Maddock Films’ horror-comedy universe. The actor told News18, “What can I say? Dinesh and Jyoti (Deshpande) will have to decide that. They’re the ones to pump in the money. Aur Amar Kaushik ko direct karna hai (and Amar Kaushik has to direct it).”
Adding to Akshay’s response, Dinesh confirmed his return and said, “Of course, he’s a part of the universe! He’s our Thanos,” and laughed. So, now it seems evident that the actor will be seen reprising his character in the third instalment of the Stree franchise, which is parked to hit the theatres on August 13, 2027.
Maddock’s horror-comedy universe began in the year 2018 with the release of the first instalment of Stree. It began expanding with Bhediya (2022) and Munjya (2024). The next film in the franchise is supposed to be Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna starrer Thama which is set for Diwali release this year.
According to the production house’s recently announced slate of films that are lined up for release, apart from Thama, Shakti Shalini will be the fifth film in the universe slated to release on December 31, 2025. Bhediya 2 is slotted for August 14, 2026 release and Chamunda is parked for December 4, 2026 release. While Stree 3 will hit the theatres on August 13, 2027, Maha Munjya will release on the silver screens on December 24, 2027. The conclusion of the entire horror-comedy universe is to take place in the year 2028 with the first part of the grand finale title Pehla Mahayudh slated for August 11, 2028 and the second part titled Doosara Mahayudh being locked for October 18, 2028.
