
Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva hit the silver screens back in 2022. Written and directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film boasted of top-notch visual effects and stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy in significant roles. Even though the much ambitious first film of the three-part trilogy reportedly collected over Rs 400 crore, and created a lot of anticipation for the second part, rumour mills had been busy churning that the remaining instalments of the mythological fantasy trilogy have been shelved.
Ayan Mukerji takes a break from Brahmastra trilogy
However, Ayan shared in a statement in April 2023 that his vision for the second and third part of Brahmastra “will be bigger and more ambitious” than the first one. He also stated that they needed “a little more time to perfect the script of Brahmastra Two and Three” and that he has decided that the remaining two films will be made together so that they can be released closer to each other. Those who’re caught unaware, Brahmastra Part One took about 10 years to be made and released.
Last update on Brahmastra: Part Two & Three
Post this, Ayan got occupied with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer much hyped War 2, leaving fans wondering about whether Brahmastra Part Two will ever take off. On September 9, 2023 Ayan had shared a video on Instagram, celebrating a year of the release of Brahmastra Part One, which ended with the line “Brahmastra Part Two & Three development in progress”. Now, after about 18 months since the last update from Ayan, Ranbir has finally opened up about the much awaited second instalment of the trilogy, titled Brahmastra: Part 2 – Dev.
Ranbir Kapoor shares latest update on Brahmastra 2
On March 14, 2025 ahead of Alia Bhatt’s birthday on March 15, Ranbir hosted a special meet and greet with the media persons in Mumbai. During the course of their conversation, when asked about Brahmastra Part Two and whether it is happening, Ranbir opened confirmed, “It is definitely happening. We haven’t really announced much about it yet, but we will have some interesting announcements regarding Brahmastra 2 soon.”
Ranbir further shared that “Brahmastra 2 is something that Ayan has been nurturing as a dream for a very long time – the entire story of Brahmastra,” and added that the director is currently working on War 2. “Once the film (War 2) releases, he is going to start the pre-production on Brahmastra 2.” If the timeline of Ayan’s 2023 update is anything to go by, then the second part is scheduled to hit the theatres in December 2026, while the third and final instalment of the trilogy is slated for a 2027 release.
In the meantime, Ranbir has Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War with Alia and Vicky Kaushal, and Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana with Sai Pallavi, Yash and others in the pipeline.
