Season one of the Netflix web series Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein (YKKA) took the internet by storm and left the viewers waiting in anticipation for season two. When season two dropped last month, it not only matched the hype, but also increased the bar in terms of expectations from season three. We recently spoke to Anchal Singh, who essays the titular character of Purva Awasthi in the series, about YKKA and her experience of shooting the show among other things.

In an exclusive interview with us, Anchal shared that she doesn’t want to limit herself to OTT projects only and wants to do everything, ranging from a mainstream film to a regional film, in addition to OTT. When asked about the directors she’d like to work with, she excitedly told us, “Without a blink, I can tell you. Raj Kumar Hirani, Imtiaz Ali, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Zoya Akhtar for sure. I really want to work with these makers, but again, it’s not just ke mujhe inke sath kaam karna hai but mujhe inke sath achcha kaam karna hai. Woh mere liye bohot zaruri hai (It’s not just that I want to work with them, I want to do good work with these filmmakers. That is very important for me).”

When quizzed about the actors she’d like to share screen space with, she mentioned Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. We asked her about the kind of movies and shows she personally likes to watch and she said, “Even when it comes to the kind of roles that I want to do, it can range from anything. My watchlist is the same way. On one end I watch Succession, and on the other end, I watch Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. Vikings is pretty old but I love it. Simultaneously, I also watch Kung Fu Panda. So my watchlist is crazy, it can range from anything to anything.”

Meanwhile, season three of YKKA has officially been announced by Netflix. Regarding the upcoming season, Anchal had told us, “The way we upped the game from season one to season two, I’m sure in the subsequent seasons, that’s what the idea is all about. And about Purva in YKKA, in subsequent seasons that Inshaallah has to happen, she will not be a typical protagonist for sure.”
