Tamil stars Nayanthara and Dhanush have been making headlines lately. It all started after Nayanthara shared an ‘open letter’ on her official Instagram page, addressed to Dhanush. The Jawan actress levelled allegations against Dhanush, with whom she co-starred in Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal, directed by her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan. In the letter, Nayanthara accused Dhanush of being ‘vile while wearing a mask in front of the world’. This comes after the actor resorted to taking legal action against Nayanthara and Vignesh for using a three-second clip from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan – which was produced by Dhanush and helmed by Vignesh – in the trailer of their upcoming Netflix documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale. Reacting to Lady Superstar’s letter, six of Dhanush’s former co-stars – including Parvathy Thiruvothu, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Shruti Haasan – have now extended their support to Nayanthara on social media.
Released in 2015, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan is a romantic action comedy film, written and directed by Vignesh. With Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara in the lead, alongside Parthiban, Radhika Sarathkumar, RJ Balaji and Anandaraj in supporting roles, the movie was written and directed by Vignesh and produced by Dhanush under his Wunderbar Films and distributed by Lyca Productions. It’s the story of a police inspector’s son, who gets tangled in illegal activities.
The legal notice issued by Dhanush makes a copyright claim for ₹10 crore. Responding to which, Nayanthara wrote: “It’s almost been 10 years since the release of the film and it is a long time for someone to continue to be this vile while wearing a mask in front of the world. I have not forgotten all the horrible things that you said about the film that was one of your biggest hits as a producer and a film that is loved by all even today. The words you said pre-release have left some unhealable scars to us already. I learnt through film circles that your ego was supremely hurt after the film became a blockbuster. Your displeasure over its success was perceptible even to common man through award functions connected with this film.”
Slated to release on November 18, which also happens to be Nayanthara’s birthday, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale is directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon. In the intimate documentary, the celebrated actress ‘looks back on her journey towards love and superstardom amidst personal struggles and triumphs’. Cut to the latest, a number of leading actresses and directors across industries have thrown their weight behind Nayanthara’s ‘open letter’.
