Earlier this year, Academy Award-winning actress Nicole Kidman made headlines after she delivered an excellent speech while accepting the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award. The Perfect Couple actor mentioned a slew of directors who apparently “took a bet” on her throughout her career. The list included names like Susanne Bier, Stanley Kubrick, Sofia Coppola, Jane Campion and Gus Van Sant.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair when Nicole was asked if there was any filmmaker she would want to work with in the future, she said, “I’ve always said I want to work with [Martin] Scorsese… If he does a film with women.”

Martin’s latest film Killers of the Flower Moon – starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, Robert De Niro, Brendan Fraser and Jesse Plemons – was nominated for 10 Oscars at the 96th Academy Awards. The celebrated filmmaker’s most talked about movies include Goodfellas, The Wolf of Wall Street, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Departed, Gangs of New York and The Aviator – all of which are male-centred. That said, he has made a few films with female leads too, such as Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Boxcar Bertha and New York, New York.

Adding to the list, Nicole further said, “I’d love to work with Kathryn Bigelow. I’d love to work with Spike Jones. I’d love to work with PTA [Paul Thomas Anderson]. I’ve always wanted to work with Michael Haneke. And there’s a whole slew of new up-and-coming directors — there’s so many, and I’m always open to the discovery of new people. And I find it really exciting when you go, ‘Here’s someone that’s so experienced and has been working and working, but they’ve now really hit their stride. I worked with Karyn Kusama on ‘Destroyer,’ and she’s gone on to ‘Yellowjackets’ and so many big things now. She was at a point where she was frustrated and not getting the things made that she wanted and wasn’t having the opportunities.”

Nicole was last seen in director Richard LaGravenese’s romantic comedy film A Family Affair, which also stars Zac Efron, Joey King and Kathy Bates. Currently, she is also making headlines for Halina Reijn-directed Babygirl, an erotic thriller film, with Harris Dickinson, Sophie Wilde and Antonio Banderas also in the lead. The movie is set to hit the theatres on December 25, 2024.
