Music legend Bob Dylan, who has inspired generations of singers and songwriters around the world, seems to have put his seal of approval on director James Mangold’s upcoming biographical drama film A Complete Unknown, starring Timothée Chalamet. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) account, the iconic The Times They Are a-Changin’ singer described the Oscar-nominated French actor as ‘brilliant’. “I’m sure he’s going to be completely believable as me,” wrote the Nobel Prize winner.

Slated to release on December 25, the movie is inspired by Elijah Wald’s 2015 book, titled Dylan Goes Electric! Newport, Seeger, Dylan, and the Night That Split the Sixties. The plot focuses on ‘the controversy surrounding the switch to electrically amplified instrumentation by Dylan’. The movie also features Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, Boyd Holbrook and Scoot McNairy in significant roles.

Praising his upcoming biopic, the legendary musician said, “There’s a movie about me opening soon called A Complete Unknown (what a title!). Timothee Chalamet is starring in the lead role. Timmy’s a brilliant actor so I’m sure he’s going to be completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or some other me. The film’s taken from Elijah Wald’s Dylan Goes Electric – a book that came out in 2015. It’s a fantastic retelling of events from the early ‘60s that led up to the fiasco at Newport. After you’ve seen the movie, read the book.”

Responding to @bobdylan’s tweet, Timothée (@RealChalamet) wrote, “Floored. I am so grateful. Thank you Bob.” The movie is produced by Searchlight Pictures.

The actor is best known for his performance in movies like Dune: Part Two (2024), Wonka (2023), Bones and All (2022), Dune: Part One (2021), The French Dispatch (2021), Little Women (2019), Beautiful Boy (2018) Lady Bird (2017), Call Me by Your Name (2017), among others. He has won three Golden Globe Awards and three BAFTA Film Awards.
