Bad Girl is a Tamil language coming-of-age drama starring Anjali Sivaraman in the titular role. The upcoming film is helmed by newcomer Varsha Bharath. Presented by filmmakers Anurag Kashyap and Vetri Maaran, the anticipated movie has sparked a huge controversy soon after the release of its official teaser. Talking about the film, a few cinephiles took to social media and mentioned that the portrayal of the main character as “unacceptable.”
Bad Girl Official Teaser
The latest teaser begins by showcasing Anjali as a schoolgirl who is quite vulnerable in life. She seems to be mostly interested in making a boyfriend rather than studies. At the same time, she also deals with self-doubt as no one near her, including her friends, teachers and parents, seems to support or even understand her. The official video further displays three different time stamps of the lead actor’s life and how she comes across as a failure in front of others because of her unconventional attitude and perspective towards life.
On Sunday, January 26, Anurag shared the teaser video on his official Instagram handle with a special quote that reads, “So Proud to present this powerful, fun , cutting edge film BAD GIRL along with my favourite filmmaker #vetrimaaran… (sic).” The filmmaker also mentioned the director of the film and informed that it’s going to premiere in the Tiger Competition.

One of the X users took to the social media platform and mentioned that the movie promotes degeneracy, while another Twitterati called it #Badmovie in a long tweet.

Supporting movies like Bad Girl which promote degeneracy, secretly enjoying the degradation of Brahmin women onscreen, is like growing snakes in your backyard and expecting them to bite only your neighbours. The snakes will come after your womenfolk one day.
